Play Football Imposter

Most players receive a card with the name of a real footballer, while one or more players receive a card that simply says:

🥸 IMPOSTER

Real players give short clues about the footballer.
Imposters must bluff using vague football-ish clues without knowing who the player is.

It’s brilliant fun and also exposes which of your mates actually knows ball… and who absolutely doesn’t 😅.

But there’s a twist…

🎯 If the imposter correctly guesses the footballer at any point, they instantly win.

🧩 What You Need

3–12 players
Paper or cards
Pen
A list of footballers (or someone acting as the dealer)

🎲 Setup

1️⃣ Choose a Dealer 🤵‍♂️
One person secretly picks the footballer for the round.

2️⃣ Prepare the Cards 🃏

Write the chosen player’s name on all but 1–3 cards.
On the remaining card(s), write: IMPOSTER.

3️⃣ Deal Cards 🤫
Everyone checks their card privately.

4️⃣ Choose the Starting Player 🔁
Go clockwise from there.

🔄 How a Round Works

1️⃣ 🗣️ Clue Round — One or Two Words Only

Each player gives a one–two word clue describing the footballer.

Examples from real players:

“Left-footed”
“Premier League”
“Captain”
“Brazil”
“Dribbler”

Imposters, who don’t know the player, must give clues that sound right without being obvious.

Typical imposter clues:

“Fast?”
“Attacker?”
“Skillful?”
“European?”

The goal: real players can’t be too obvious, and imposters can’t sound too lost.

2️⃣ 💬 Quick Discussion (Optional)

Players can briefly debate suspicious clues.

3️⃣ 🗳️ Voting Phase

Everyone points to the person they believe is the imposter.

The player with the majority of votes becomes the accused player for that round.

What happens next depends on the game mode.

Standard Game Mode (5+ Players)

Outcome 1️⃣ The Group Accuses the Imposter

The imposter reveals their card 😱
They now get one chance to guess the footballer

✔️ Correct guess → Imposter wins 🎉

✖️ Wrong guess → Real players win 🏆

This creates a tense final moment.

Outcome 2️⃣ The Group Accuses a Real Player

If the accused player is innocent:

They reveal their card
They are out for the round
The imposter now chooses:

A) Continue to the next clue round

More clues = more information 🧠

B) Attempt a guess immediately 🎯

Correct → Imposter wins
Wrong → Real players win

Small Group Variant (3–4 Players)

With only 3–4 players, eliminating innocent players ruins the game.
So this mode works differently:

1️⃣ Play a fixed number of clue rounds

Usually 3 or 4 rounds.

Each round, everyone gives a fresh clue.

2️⃣ After the final round, do ONE vote

Everyone points to the person they believe is the imposter.

3️⃣ Imposter reveal and guess

If the imposter is voted out → they must guess the footballer to win
If the imposter survives the vote → they guess to try and win anyway

This keeps every player fully involved the whole time, and still gives the imposter tension and opportunity.

📘 Example Round

Secret player: Kevin De Bruyne
Cards: 6 real players, 1 imposter

Clues:

“Midfielder”
“Belgium”
“Assist”
“Manchester”
Imposter: “Creative?”
“Passing”

The group votes and catches the imposter.
Now the imposter must guess:

“Is it Kevin De Bruyne?”

If yes → Imposter wins
If no → Real players win

⚡ Optional House Rules

👥 Two Imposters

Both win if either guesses correctly.

🎓 Obvious-Clue Penalty

If someone gives a clue too specific, the group can penalise them.

Real players win → +1 point each
Imposter wins → +2 points
